You’ve probably heard the term the Great Resignation being used to describe the increase of employees voluntarily leaving their jobs in the last two years…
But did you know that the driving force behind it is the intersection of race and equity in the workplace, and that Black women in particular have been behind the wheel?
Of course, this isn’t the first time that Women of Color have lead the charge of a socioeconomic revolution (hello, #BlackHistoryMonth!), but for most of today’s workforce, this is the first time we’re experiencing it firsthand.
At the root of the Great Resignation is disruption. It’s recognizing how certain systems aren’t working for us and getting REAL about the changes we want to see happen. ๐ฏ
We’re not only examining our roles within corporations and organizations, we’re exploring our own relationship between our ย w o r k ย and our ย w o r t h.
We’re no longer interested in merely surviving in our careersโโ we want to THRIVE. ๐๐๐
If you’re ready to stop shrinking and start showing up as the bold leader you were born to be, join the Advancing Black Professionals Virtual Summit on February 25th.

Over the last 18+ months or so, leaders have been scrambling to make adjustments and implement changes on their teams and in corporations.
But the problem is that there hasn’t been as much time or resources dedicated to reflection, evaluation, and personal development.
Part of being an intentional leader is doing our due diligence to understand a situation so we can determine how to move forward. ๐ฏ
Instead of taking immediate action, often times, this requires us to take a step back. To create time for the hard conversations. To get real with ourselves about our own beliefs and goals.
It’s about pausing to reflect on where we need to make shifts in order to move forward from where we are to where we want to go. ๐

When it comes to equity and inclusion work, diversity is only the beginning of the conversation.
The REAL work happens when we get intentional about incorporating the changes we want to see, at every level of our organizations and corporations. ๐ฅ
Belonging is about connection. Connection is about inclusion. And inclusion isn’t just about creating seats at the table, but making sure that those in them feel safe, seen, and heard. ๐ฏ

Transformational change in an organization starts with transformational change in leadership.
Here’s the deal: creating an inclusive culture isn’t something that’s going to happen simply because we want it to.
We have to Do. The. Work. to integrate and incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion in every level of our businesses and organizations, from marketing strategies to operations. ๐ฏ
Take look at your company and ask yourself how you’re measuring up:
Are you improving your awareness and actions around these topics?
Do you have plans in place for recruiting (and retaining!) diverse talent?
This isn’t a one-and-done situation. This is an ongoing process of cultivating inclusive culture but you have to be committed to it. โ๐พ๐ฅ

Trying to implement marketing strategies without having a clear understanding of who you’re trying to connect with (and why!) is like putting the cart before the horse.
I see this happen ALL the time with organizations and business owners:
They get so focused on all the external elements: website, logos, images, colors… that they forget about incorporating their beliefs and values into the brand.
Once you’re super clear about who you serve, how you serve them, and how you measure success, you can use social media and marketing assets to scale your business. Not the other way around.

I absolutely love leading clients through this visualization exercise, whether it’s during a one-on-one coaching session or from a conference hall stage.
While I’m intrigued by each person’s vision for their life… I’m mostly interested in the impact they make by sharing it with others. ๐
For many of us, particularly as Women of Color, sharing our beautiful, BOLD dreams and ideas isn’t something we’re encouraged to do very often.
But by taking our vision out of our minds, putting it into words, and sharing it with the worldโโ we invite those around us to join and support us along our journeys.
I’d love to encourage you to replay this video and follow along with the prompts. Visualize yourself and your life three years from now and hold that image in your mind throughout your day. โจ

Raise your hand if you’re ready to stop ‘shoulding’ yourself ๐๐พโโ๏ธ
I’m talking about that feeling when you walk away from a conversation or experience and think of all the things you “should” have said or done.ย
Part of showing up is owning your narrative and using your voice. I had to learn this lesson the hard way and I’m here to help you, too.
Because here’s the thing: if you don’t create your personal brand, you give someone else permission to do it for you.
It’s time to become the leader you were born to be. ๐๐๐
Learn how to build a personal brand, advance your career, nail your next interview, attract and retain diverse talent, and so much more. Register for the Advancing Black Professionals Virtual Summit coming up on February 25th.

If you’ve recently had a performance review at work, chances are certain metrics were used to measure your performance.
We tend to place an emphasis on output, results, and numbers… when in fact, these performance metrics only account for 10% of career advancement.
The other pieces of the P.I.E. are Image and Exposure. (see what I did there? ๐)
If 90% of our career advancement depends on if, and how, we’re seen at work, we need to prioritize showing up fully and getting the exposure our work deserves. ๐ฏ
